FALMOUTH, Trelawny — MAYOR of Falmouth Councillor Garth Wilkinson has scheduled a town meeting for today at the conference centre of the Falmouth Fire Station to outline to residents plans for a massive two-day clean-up of the historic town, set to commence on Monday, August 18.
At today's meeting the mayor will be joined by representatives of several government agencies, including the National Solid Waste Management Agency (NSWMA) which will partner with the Trelawny Parish Council and the private sector in the major clean-up initiative.
Last week, Wilkinson, accompanied by representatives of the NSWMA, the Trelawny Heath Department, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and other stakeholders got a first-hand view of a massive pile-up of garbage along Water Lane, during a walk of sections of the town.
Residents along Water Lane, as well as passers-by are believed to be responsible for disposing their waste at the location which is slowly developing into a major dump site.
Wilkinson later revealed that discussions are currently underway with the NSWMA in a bid to dismantle the informal dump site within that section of Falmouth.
